BIOGRAPHY
Jane Sklar is a distinguished artist and photographer based in Fort Lee, NJ, whose professional path began after graduating from Cornell University. Since establishing her career in 2011, she has developed a signature style of layered photographic artwork, created without the use of Photoshop®. Her unique process involves collaging original images into one-of-a-kind pieces that have been showcased at the Edward Hopper House and numerous prestigious galleries across New York City and the tri-state area. In 2020, Jane was honored as a Resident Artist Member of the renowned Salmagundi Club in NYC, where she remains an active contributor to their curated shows and auctions. With six awards from the club as of 2026, her intricate works are held in esteemed private collections globally, marking her as a significant voice in contemporary photographic art. Through her lens, she captures a evolving narrative of creativity and technical mastery.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My creative philosophy centers on 'photography with a twist,' a method where I transform original photographs into intricate, multi-layered digital paintings. Eschewing traditional editing software like Photoshop®, I use simplified tools to deconstruct and reassemble images, allowing the organic evolution of each layer to guide the final composition. This exploratory process often leads to unexpected aesthetic paths, where a single piece may incorporate dozens of distinct photographic elements to achieve its depth. I find inspiration in the challenge of nonlinear creation, aiming to visualize the unseen and translate my life’s journey into a visual chronicle. Each collage serves as a record of my personal and artistic development, reflecting a persistent pursuit of growth through experimentation. For me, every completed work is a deeply personal chapter that celebrates the limitless possibilities of the photographic medium.
